What are the release dates and times for Disney?

After months of waiting and a launch in November 2019 in the United States and some countries, such as the Netherlands, the Disney service has been available in France since midnight on April 7, 2020. Initially, the platform was supposed to be available on March 24, 2020, but the American giant decided to postpone the release of Disney at the request of the French government. Coronavirus and remote work in France led to the temporary suspension of the SVOD service, but ultimately there was only a 14-day delay between the initially planned date and the final availability date.

How much does the Disney subscription cost?

The streaming service is offered at €6.99 per month or €69.99 per year (a cost of €5.83 per month), whether on the web, smartphone, tablet, or OTT. This is one euro cheaper than the Essential subscription of its rival Netflix, which does not offer 4K and 4 simultaneous screens — although initially, due to the coronavirus, the quality will be limited. If you live in Belgium, you will have to wait until summer 2020 to sign up.

Disney and Canal have announced an exclusive partnership to broadcast the streaming platform on demand on television, the internet, and via satellite. Disney joins Netflix and OCS in the Ciné Séries package and is therefore available as part of a unique multi-platform subscription. There are 5 possible subscription packages with a one-month free trial: here are the details

  • limited offer at €19.90/month. This package is valid until June 3, 2020, and allows access to Disney and Canal. This rate is valid for two years.
  • Canal package at €24.90 per month at launch. This offers access to Disney and all Canal channels. It rises to €34.99/month after two years.
  • Family Pack for €29.90 per month at Disney’s launch. This subscription includes about 60 different themed channels. This rate increases to €34.90/month after two years.
  • Cine Series Pack for €34.90 per month at launch. Allows access to Disney, OCS, Netflix, and Ciné. This price therefore rises to €49.90/month after two years.
  • Complete Pack at €89.90 per month at launch. This is the most comprehensive package and, of course, the most expensive. Includes all Canal and Disney channels and services. The offer then rises to €99.90/month after two years.

It should be noted that subscribers to the Complete, Integral, and Cine Series packages benefit from free access to Disney. Members of the Family Packs can enjoy Disney for free for 1 year, but in addition to that, they will have to pay the sum of €6.99 per month (regular subscription).

Finally, it has recently been learned that Disney, like other streaming platforms, is all subject to CSA regulations. The councils that will soon merge with Hadopi to form Arcom will regulate these platforms just like television channels. Disney will now have to contribute to the financing of French cinema and equip itself with 30% of European productions.

7-day free trial at Disney

It is more cost-effective to sign up for Disney for 1 year at a cost of €69.99 (about €5.83 per month) but payment must be made all at once. Or you can choose the plan for €6.99 per month with no commitment, in which case you can cancel at any time without charge.

Fortunately, Disney has set up a 7-day free trial. So, you take no risk if you don’t like the service. Go here to learn more about the 7-day free trial of Disney.

What films, series, and cartoons are available on Disney?

In the catalog, Disney can count on content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Avatar (thanks to the acquisition of 21st Century Fox), Frozen, all the Simpsons, The Lion King, and many others are offered on the platform. The list of available films, series, and cartoons is known, but it is too long to present here (it’s 22 pages). Below, we focused on Marvel and Star Wars films and series, but if you want to check the complete Disney program, visit the official website of the platform.

Not all programs are integrated from the release date of Disney, but will be added gradually until the end of 2020. Hulu content will not be included because Disney wants to differentiate the two offers.

Since the launch, subscribers can watch the series The Mandalorian by director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book), which takes place in the Star Wars universe. To celebrate the launch of Disney in France, episode 1 of The Mandalorian is broadcast for free on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2020, on Canal, C8, and CSStar.

In total, more than 7,500 episodes of series and 500 films are announced on the platform. However, some films and series are censored or modified.

On the other hand, following licensing agreements made with competitors, some films may be removed from the catalog, as was the case in the United States. Films like A Dog’s Life! (1959), Garfield 2 (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean, Dr. Dolittle, or Home Alone! (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York! (1992) are no longer available.

To enjoy this service as soon as possible, we recommend reading our tutorial on how to install Disney on all your devices. However, unlike Netflix, internet boxes are largely absent from the list of Disney-compatible devices. It is impossible to access the platform through SFR, Bouygues, Orange, or Free players, as none of these ISPs offer a Disney app.

With one exception: Disney has entered into an exclusive contract with Canal. If you have a subscription to the Integral, Integral, and Cine Series offers, you can access Disney from your internet box.
