In Medical Biology Laboratories in France, a professional, often unknown, is responsible for all activities conducted in the laboratory: from sampling to performing analyses, as well as presenting your results and communicating them to doctors or to you.
This health professional is the medical biologist, pharmacist, or physician by initial training who has undergone additional training (often former hospital interns). Formerly the director or assistant director of the analysis laboratory: the medical biologist is the health professional who validates and signs your results, the person responsible for your medical tests in France.

The role of the medical biologist: it is not limited to merely directing their laboratory and signing your results. The biologist often collects numerous samples, whether in the laboratory or from patients. An expert in sampling, they can also oversee technicians/nurses when these samples are difficult or when they are the only ones authorized to perform them (specific microbiological samples, for example, when it is necessary to investigate the source of an infection), etc.
In the case of an urgent blood test to be performed at home or in a facility (in a clinic or in a nursing home), it is often the medical biologist who moves and ensures that the tests are carried out quickly for better patient care.
